What a Saturday it was across our state — 257 teams, nearly 37 percent of Michigan's varsities, hit the floor at least once. And right in the thick of it stood Byron Center, the No. 3-ranked squad in Division 1 at 34-4, who cruised past Division 2 top-ranked Grand Rapids Christian 25-12, 25-12 after a 6-1 run through the Beast of the East. Up north, Traverse City Christian kept rolling too, the Division 4 No. 3 going 4-1 at the McBain Invitational and handling Kingsley 25-21, 25-21. And give Tecumseh its due: the Division 2 honorable mention outlasted top-ranked Lenawee Christian 17-25, 25-21, 15-10 to cap a perfect 6-0 run through the Lenawee County Tournament. Now the real stakes arrive. District brackets drop this Sunday, Oct. 25, with the top two seeds in each set by the Michigan Power Ratings. That is the moment every one of these runs has been building toward.
