Gobles Steps Up to 11-Player Football, and the Tigers Are Ready

Big change for our Gobles Tigers this fall, folks: after four straight seasons of 8-player ball — a combined 31-10 record and MHSAA Playoff trips in four of the last five years — they're making the jump to 11-player football, where they land in Division 8. That 2024 squad went undefeated in the regular season before falling to Martin in the Division 1 8-Player Regional Semifinal, so this move comes from a program that knows how to win. Coach Greg Eichler is building around some standout young talent, headlined by sophomore tailback and free safety Case Lord, the first freshman Eichler moved up to varsity in his six years coaching. Senior outside linebacker and wing back Hunter Piper, number 7 and also a wrestler, brings the veteran edge. Lord's been at this a while — he started on a club team twelve years ago. The Tigers scrimmaged Coloma last Thursday and open at home against Niles Brandywine. Then comes Sept. 3, the Tiger Tribute game versus Hartford — flyovers, a parade, vehicles, and the choir singing the anthem, with 2010 alum and Navy Lieutenant Commander Ian Weston as honorary captain.
