We've watched Carter Stapleton grow up in front of us, and on Aug. 24 the Frankenmuth senior did something no Eagle has ever done — he supplanted Kendall Morris and Matt Hinds in the same night, and he now owns both school career records: 90 goals and 134 points. He is also tied for the single-game marks in goals (six), points (eight) and assists (four). That is not a hot streak, that is a career. The path here reads like a ladder: 18 goals as a freshman, 22 as a sophomore, 30 as a junior, and each fall Frankenmuth pushed one round deeper into the postseason — District Final, Regional Semifinal, then a Regional Final that slipped away in overtime against Lansing Catholic. This year our Eagles sit 8-4 and ranked No. 11 in Division 3, with Stapleton and DCFC teammate Landon Jacobs among 10 seniors carrying the load. Twenty goals in 12 games this fall, and only one Semifinals berth in program history, back in 2003. The runway is right there.
