You know the name if you know Detroit basketball, and if you don't, let us introduce you to Antoine Joubert — Michigan's Mr. Basketball, a McDonald's All-American, and one of the finest to ever lace them up on our high school hardwood. As a senior at Detroit Southwestern he poured in 31.3 points, 14 rebounds and seven assists a night, then dropped 47 in the championship game against Flint Central — one of the greatest Finals performances in state history. From there it was on to the University of Michigan, a starter as a freshman and twice honorable mention all-Big Ten, before the Pistons drafted him in the sixth round in 1987. A knee injury in camp ended that dream, but The Judge never stopped moving — Mexico, Venezuela, Belgium, France, Spain, Poland, Italy, Asia, an MVP season and an all-star nod along the way. Today he hosts camps he started back in 1992, runs the AAU program The Judge's Court, and coached over a decade at Oakland Community College out in Farmington. A master's degree. A globe circled twice. And a love for the game that simply outlasted everything.
