It's a big day at Kauffman Stadium, as our Tigers hand the ball to a fresh face: Andrew Sears, the No. 14 prospect in the system, is up for his MLB debut Sunday against the Royals. The 23-year-old lefty reliever was in the clubhouse Saturday night just to acclimate to the big leagues — not yet on the roster, so no media, just soaking it all in. A.J. Hinch and the club rearranged things to make room, giving Keider Montero a few extra days of rest and pushing Framber Valdez from Sunday to Monday. Sears is lined up as the bulk option in a bullpen game, and folks, this kid can pitch. Look at the résumé: a 2.16 ERA across four levels this year after coming back in mid-May from a fractured bone spur in his left elbow, a 2.57 mark at Double-A Erie, and 9 2/3 scoreless innings since his Aug. 9 promotion to Triple-A Toledo. That slider from a lower arm slot is his best weapon, with a fastball that touches 97. A 10th-round find in 2023 turning heads.
