The Lion's took care of business in Detroit, edging the Washington Commanders 17-13 in a preseason grind that came down to the final minutes, and even without our biggest stars on the field, the Lions found a way to win at home. Dan Campbell rested Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and Penei Sewell, with Aidan Hutchinson among the defensive absences, so this was a chance for the depth to step up. And step up it did: Joshua Dobbs, expected to back up Goff this season, faked a handoff and raced 50 yards for the tying touchdown, while rookie Luke Altmyer went 9 of 13 for 86 yards. Jake Bates iced it with a 37-yard field goal with 2:26 left, and we ran out the clock on a fourth-down conversion. The worry: Cedrick Wilson Jr. left with a knee injury, and Campbell said he's concerned about the diagnosis. Michael Niese left on crutches and Jabari Small entered concussion protocol. We move to 1-1 and finish the preseason Saturday at Indianapolis.
