What a way to open a season, Detroit. Our Pistons got buried early — Paul George dropping 38 in his Boston debut, including three triples in under a minute to shove the Celtics ahead 72-50 — and most nights that's lights out. Not this night, and not in Motown. Detroit clawed off the canvas with a 23-0 run, Javonte Green burying a fifth 3-pointer to push the lead to 13 with 3:33 left, and when the dust settled it read 121-113. That's a 22-point comeback — the NBA's largest ever on the first day of a season, and the biggest in a league opener since 1997. Boston became just the fifth team in 30 seasons to blow a 22-point lead on opening night. George, a nine-time All-Star now with his fifth team in his 17th season, poured in the most ever by a Celtic in a debut on 7-of-12 from deep. Didn't matter. Jayson Tatum missed 17 of 23 and the reigning Coach of the Year's bunch folded while our guys dug it out.
