Rookie Moore Announces Himself in Lions Preseason Debut vs. Washington

The wait was worth it. After a minor groin injury cost him a couple weeks of camp and kept him out of our first preseason trip to Cincinnati on Aug. 13, rookie edge rusher Derrick Moore made his Lions debut Saturday against the Commanders and stuffed the stat sheet: a sack, a forced fumble, a tackle for loss and a couple tackles. This is exactly the guy Detroit had circled. Moore was the top pass rusher on our draft board entering Day 2 of the April draft, and the second-rounder backed it up — his sack came at the expense of Washington quarterback Sam Hartman. We watched him at Michigan in 2025 pile up 10.5 tackles for loss and 10.0 sacks, and that same disruption showed up under Dan Campbell's lights. He wasn't the only rookie flashing. Sixth-round pick Skyler Gill-Howard drew early snaps with the first-team defense and added a quarterback hit and a tackle for loss, while DJ Wonnum chipped in a sack of his own.
