There's no way to dress this one up, so I won't try. The White Sox handled our Tigers 8-1 at Rate Field on Sunday, took the series 3-1, and with it went the last of Detroit's playoff hopes. Chicago made it official — our season is over. The start was delayed three hours and fifty minutes by rain, and most of the game was played in a swirling mist, which feels about right for how the afternoon went. Sam Antonacci's two-run double keyed a three-run fourth, and it was during that inning that Troy Melton left with a trainer after allowing three runs on four hits over 3 2/3. Eduardo Valencia's three hits and Max Clark's eighth-inning sacrifice fly were the only bright spots on our side. We finish 73-83, and now the focus shifts forward: the Tigers haven't named a starter for Monday's opener of a three-game series against Washington. There's still baseball left to play, and the group deserves to hear the house roar for it.
