Tough one to swallow on a rainy Saturday in Chicago, where the Tigers dropped a 3-1 decision to the White Sox at Rate Field, a game bumped to a 2:10 afternoon start with thunderstorms in the forecast. Detroit left eleven runners on base — eleven — and that's the whole story: the traffic was there, the timely hit was not. Jackson Jobe deserved a far better fate, striking out nine and surrendering just three runs across six innings. Sean Burke went six for Chicago and picked up his tenth win, and Miguel Vargas led off the bottom of an inning with a 390-foot drive to left-center for his 33rd homer. Kevin McGonigle tripled in the fifth, but the bats stayed quiet after that. At 73-82, that's three losses in four games, and this one dropped in front of 30,631. The good news: Troy Melton (8-4, 2.52 ERA) takes the ball Sunday against Davis Martin, and Melton has been our steadiest arm all year. Let's even this series up.
